Sunday was a glorious day in so many more ways than one. The weather was glorious, bathing the Catz sports fields and our young and eager athletes in a golden glow. The array of events that ensued was glorious too, with sprinters doing their thing on the 100m stretch, and those of more upward-body inclinations wowing us all in the welly wanging and space hopper throwing events. Ultimately, it was glorious because our own Yarnton Manor students won the day, bringing home medals and sweets for everyone (and their mothers, too).
After Saturday’s cultural excursion and the week’s learning, students said it was a great feeling to be letting loose and rooting for the Manor team against other ORA campuses. For Yarnton was up against stiff competition: the Rampant Lions of Balliol were out in force, as were the Wheels of St Catherine’s, and the Eagles of Queen’s College. Each team had spent the days before the meeting preparing blazons and T-shirts decorated for the respective home team: Balliol appeared in fiery red, St Catz in midnight blue, Queen’s in cool white, and our own Yarnton Manor students taking a fresh approach in verdant green.
Congratulations to our athletes, who were great sports as well as worthy winners. When the final medal had been awarded, and the last sweet prize dropped into eager hands, it was back home to the Manor for showers all round and a relaxing evening in the Cinema Room.
