The students staying at Queen’s College have truly begun Broadening Horizons as they complete their first day of lessons. Having pre-selected two morning subject options, the students are hoping to develop existing or new interests, whilst capturing student’s imagination and enhancing their subject knowledge. Morning seminars are smaller groups of students, enabling a closer interaction between teacher and pupil, whilst afternoon workshops are typically larger group sizes, making them far more suitable for interactive activities.
Many chose to spend their free time out of college exploring the city centre. First stop was getting an aerial view from the top of the University Church of St Mary’s spire. Students were able to see the city in its entirety from the highest visitor point in Oxford. Students then wandered through narrow streets and explored the ancient covered market.
After a sumptuous supper back in college, the students took part in the Queen’s Quiz Night. There was a jovial, yet competitive atmosphere amongst the students as they teamed up ready to answer questions about Oxford, sport, history and geography. The winners were The Burrito Guys, who took the victory in a humble manner as they proudly collected their confectionary prize in front of their peers.
Students then migrated over to the Shulman Auditorium for a viewing of the movie ‘Ant Man’ to help the students relax and unwind after such a busy first day.
