Queen’s College has now welcomed the Session 5 students into its illustrious halls and chambers. Students have travelled from all over the globe to glimpse into the life of an undergraduate at the University of Oxford through the Oxford Royale Academy experience. Each student was attentively guided to their rooms by the counsellors, who assisted with unpacking and ensuring that students feel as at home as possible.
Parents, staff and students were welcomed in the Queen’s College lecture theatre to receive their welcome packs, including; a map of Oxford, their individual timetables, a portable phone charger and an Oxford Royale Academy t-shirt. Ron Wilder then provided an informative welcome talk, drawing student’s attention to particular upcoming highlights to begin building the excitement. Ron also encouraged students to really engage in the experience and leap at every opportunity presented to them in their short stay with us. Ron explained day to day life, in addition to laying down the ground rules that all students must adhere to.
After a traditional English tea on the lawn, it was time for parents to say goodbye and leave the students to begin their journey here at ORA. Counsellors didn’t hesitate to begin bringing out the ice breaker exercises, ensuring the group mingled and everyone was included.
With 135 countries visiting ORA this summer, many students staying at Queen’s this session travelled many long hours to be here with us. Some very tired faces began to emerge and students were keen to rest up to be fresh and ready for what tomorrow throws at them. We can’t wait to begin!
