To mark the halfway mark of the student’s stay with us here at The Queen’s College Oxford, the students fully engrossed themselves into the ‘Narnia’ themed party. CS Lewis, an Oxford academic, wrote ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ books and entertained thousands of children around the globe!
The party took place at the stunning Kingston Bagpuize stately home in a unique setting on the edge of The White Horse Vale, only a short drive outside the city centre. Afternoon free time in the college was used to become lions and witches, but no wardrobes this year!
Upon arrival, there was a beautiful selection of mocktails to help students into the party spirit! Students were encouraged to meet and integrate with the students studying at Balliol and St Catherine’s Colleges. The students battled it out on the gladiator trainer, ultimately aiming to knock opponents off their podium! A Surf Simulator and Bucking Bronco provided laughter all evening as contenders continually tried to post a new best time and beat their friends!
As the sun began to set, students were ushered into the ballroom, complete with Narnia décor, DJ and an array of drinks and snacks to fuel the party! Although some students were a little apprehensive at the beginning, Counsellors encouraged all the students to join in and by the end of the evening, everyone was dancing! Students danced late into the evening with their peers at St Peter’s and new friends made from Balliol and St Catherine’s. Definitely not a night to be forgotten in a hurry, with many students already discussing next weeks ‘Carnival’ themed ball at St Catherine’s College!
The bus ride home was electric, with tales of the evening’s antics. But when students arrived home at Queen’s, many quickly flopped into bed immediately without having to be told, a first here! Tomorrow the students look forward to visiting Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace, and home of William Shakespeare. More updates to follow!
