The first day of lessons has been a great success for the students staying at St Peter’s College. Introduction to Computer Science students began looking at basic scientific programming, whilst students with a prior working knowledge began web programming and informatics. Students were also introduced to the Fortran programming language that will enable algorithm design and useful debugging techniques. For students undertaking the Engineering Preparation programme, the course teaches above high school maths and physics levels, providing a foretaste of topics that will be covered in an engineering degree. Law Preparation will be providing students with an introduction to studying law in the UK, students will be learning the key skills needed to study law, obtain a training contract in a law firm and practice law.
After completing the day’s lessons and workshops, the students rallied in the marquee, ready to be split up and taken on a tour of Oxford. Students were guided by a professional and knowledgeable tour guide, seeing world famous sites such as the Bodleian Library and Christ Church – both of which are in the Harry Potter series. Students will walk in the very footsteps of celebrated figures such as J.R.R Tolkien and C.S Lewis and marvelled at the stunning scenery. Oxford has been a centre of learning for centuries, and we are proud to be continuing the tradition with the students staying in St Peter’s!
