St Peter’s College has thrown open its doors to welcome new students from all over the globe. The newest cohort of ORA students has now arrived, and ready to begin their very own Oxford experience. After quickly finding their rooms, unpacking and making themselves at home, the students were given their welcome backs including; a city map of Oxford, individual timetables, a portable phone charger and their first Oxford Royale Academy t-shirt.
Parents, students and staff gathered in the St Peter’s College Chapel, welcomed by Programme Director, Bob Barnes. Bob’s warm introductory speech ensured that students felt comfortable in their new surroundings and excited for the busy fortnight ahead. He also reminded students of what a fantastic insight their stay would provide into the life of a student at the University of Oxford.
After a traditional English tea and cakes, students bided farewell to their parents, marking the beginning of their journey with us here at ORA. Bob then regrouped the students to provide further details of their stay, whilst also laying down the ground rules, but encouraging students to fully immerse themselves in the City of Dreaming Spires. Dinner in the main St Peter’s hall proved to be a very novel experience for the students, being surrounded by great portraits of notable old alumni and beautiful architecture.
Counsellors wasted no time in beginning ice breakers in the marquee to ensure students quickly made friends and begin to relax in their new surrounds whilst having a great deal of fun.
After many long hours of travel, many students were weary, ready for bed and keen to rest up ahead of the first day of lessons tomorrow morning. This group is already showing signs of greatness and we can’t wait to begin.
