All of the students have settled comfortably into their new morning routines. With a hearty breakfast all together in the main St Peter’s College dining room to fuel the morning’s learning, the students split up into their tutorial groups to undertake a busy first morning of lessons.
The lunch hour enabled students to reunite with their peers from other classes and catch up on what they had learnt. Some students remain wonderstruck by the grandeur of their surroundings and find the very experience of daily college life particularly novel. Afternoon workshops were run to complete the day’s academic commitments before the students regrouped to begin their tour of Oxford.
The Oxford tour led the students around some of the most prestigious Oxford Colleges and university buildings. Christ Church College was a particular favourite, being the inspiration and film set for much of Hogwarts School from the illustrious Harry Potter series. Students were left astonished after discovering the 13 million books residing in the Bodleian library, and above all loved the Radcliffe Camera for its unique circular shape.
After dinner, everyone geared up for quiz night held in the main College Quad marquee. Competition was fierce and acted as an opportunity to show off intellectually and demonstrate how much they had memorised from the day’s tour.
There were some very weary faces after such a busy first day! The prospect of repeating it again in the morning left many students ready to hit the hay and recharge their batteries ready for a full morning of lessons and their visits to more tourist attractions the following afternoon. Visits from birds of prey to St Peter’s College have also got the students very excited!
More updates to follow tomorrow!
