A busy morning of lessons as our Academic Discovery students began preparing their work for the rest of the upcoming week. Their thirst for knowledge, in addition to their overall positivity is really resonating with our teaching staff. Teachers continually report back on how impressed they are with the levels of productivity and what a remarkable group of individuals the students are.
When lessons were over, the students gathered to witness a show from Science in Schools. Particular emphasis was placed on teaching the students about energy; what is actually in food and how food keeps humans functioning. The presentation was filled with many exciting explosions and experiments, holding the student’s attention brilliantly by stimulating the senses with new smells, flashing lights and loud bangs. The demonstration was broken up by a barbecue, much to the student’s delight, allowing them to discuss the exhilarating performance they had just witnessed. It also provided a great opportunity to get some fresh air and enjoy the British summers evening. After dinner was over, the students got the chance to volunteer and actually be part of the experiments, blowing things up and then learning the science behind it. This was undoubtedly the highlight as students remained completely captivated by the whizzes, bangs and bright flashes.
The students are tremendously excited about the trip to Chessington World of Adventures tomorrow. Stay tuned to find out more.
