Programme Director Wendy Missions began yesterday with an assembly in the main hall. The winners of last night’s quiz were announced, with the students staying in Hollowfrost House being victorious. Lessons then commenced, with a variety of different areas of ‘academic discovery’.
Jimmy led students to learn about adjective suffixes and verb tenses, through numerous reading and speaking exercises throughout the morning. Playing interactive grammar/word building games reinforced the points students had learnt. The competitive team nature of the games really encouraged students to step up and perform brilliantly with and against their peers.
The students enjoyed a delicious Mexican themed lunch. Tacos proved to be the most popular, with many students returning for second helpings. After which refreshing ice lollies were given to students as they returned to their classrooms for afternoon lessons.
In afternoon lessons, students commenced the ‘Dear Drop Everything and Read’ programme, encouraging students to read independently. Followed by a clip from Wallace and Gromit, to explore how it is made, students will be attempting something similar later in the week.
After the final lessons of the day, the students made their way over to the sports hall, where the Royal Institution ran a science session. The students learnt electrical theory and watched an exciting variety of experiments and explosions. Most memorable being finale, a soapy explosion that really ignited the student’s interest in science. The science session was broken up with a lovely BBQ in the canteen (British weather prevailed), providing a chance for catching up and discussing the day’s activities.
Student’s are extremely excited at the prospect of tomorrow’s visit to LEGOLAND, stay tuned for updates!
