Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming our first cohort of the summer to St Hugh’s College. Students arrived with their parents, and were treated to Afternoon Tea and tours around the college. Our Programme Director Costa Constantinou gave a rousing welcome talk to students, setting the scene for the next two weeks of studying, exploring and building new friendships.
Bidding goodbye to their parents, students were shown to their rooms and got settled in before their first group dinner in the college dining hall – the roast dinner on offer proved a new experience (and a pleasant one, we hope) for many in our international assembly!
After fortification, it was time for icebreakers. Students linked their arms to make themselves into a human knot, and used their teamwork and communication skills to free it. Then, students tested their pop culture prowess in ‘guess-who’ (how to distil all that is DJ Khaled into one simple clue?). The 10pm curfew was willingly observed by all students, many fighting off jet-lag, and all anticipating the start of classes at 9 in the morning.
