Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming our first cohort of the summer to Lady Margaret Hall. Students arrived with their parents, and were treated to Afternoon Tea and tours around the college. Our Programme Director Sarah Cassell gave a rousing welcome talk to students, setting the scene for the next two weeks of studying, exploring and building new friendships.
After bidding goodbye to their parents, students were shown to their rooms and got settled in before their first group dinner in the college dining hall – the roast dinner on offer proved a new experience (and a pleasant one, we hope) for many in our international assembly!
Fully fortified in traditional English style, students moved on to icebreakers. They got good and tangled in a human knot, and used their teamwork and communication skills to get themselves out of it. Then, students tested their general knowledge in a game of ‘guess-who’, where we had some rather inventive hints as to the vagaries of Drake and Donald Trump. The 10pm curfew was willingly observed by all students, many fighting off jet-lag, and all anticipating the start of classes at 9 in the morning.
