Sunday saw the arrival of the Session 3 students at Goodenough College in London, and we couldn’t have asked for a better first day to kick off summer school! Some students were understandably apprehensive at the prospect of attending summer school in a new country and unfamiliar environment, but nerves were quickly settled by our friendly and welcoming arrivals team of Counsellors and Junior Deans.
Parents enjoyed a traditional English afternoon tea while students met their classmates. When rooms had been found and bags dropped off, students were able to bond with each other and explore the Goodenough College grounds. Students were given their timetables for the next two weeks and began excitedly discussing what was in store for them.
A warm and informative welcome talk given by Programme Director, Chris Hovell, who emphasised what a valuable learning opportunity the coming weeks would provide. The 37 new students listened attentively, being told to grasp every opportunity in their short time with us, before being released and getting straight into the British spirit with a quick game of Croquet on the lawn before dinner.
After dinner, the students transitioned into numerous icebreakers to build bonds with their new found friends and got the chance to familiarise themselves with their Counsellors.
Students were eager to commence their first morning of lessons and notably excited at the prospect of their first London tour the following afternoon. More details on how they got on to follow tomorrow!
