Pupils got busy in week 1 at Clare College, with sports day and the end-of-week party proving to be the highlights.
Sports Day
With the sun shining, ORA students at Clare College participated in a fiercely competitive day of sports. With a mixture of team and independent races, the fight was on to compete to be the most successful group at Clare College.
Relay races got everybody moving and working together in an effort to snag first place. Then came the running races, where competition was ferocious and the cheers were loud. The 3-legged race was undoubtedly the most entertaining activity in the running section of the races, with pairs tied together as they tried to run to the finish line. It was hilarious watching everyone try hard to stay upright, as they confusingly tried to work out a mutual pace.
The next round of games bought the throwing activities. Holding a heavy, domed object, students had to see how far they could throw it across the field, with the winner throwing it the farthest. This game caused particular amusement with pupils, who tried a variety of forward and backward throwing techniques in an effort to find which was the most effective.
More games followed, including a round of rugby and an alternative version of a sack race – an Oxford Royale bag race. Students amazingly managed to stand in an Oxford Royale bag and hop their way towards the finish, tripping as they did so. It was definitely a sight to see, and we think it was a good use of our bags!
End-of-week Party
With surfboards and beach huts dotted around the venue, the Clare College end-of-week party was ready to go. With a filling and tasty dinner beforehand, everyone was ready to dance and test their balancing skills on the inflatable surfboard activity. With some pupils expertly balanced (and others finding it slightly more tricky) the surfboard activity proved a tense, exciting and popular element of the party. With colourful lights and loud music also setting the scene, the evening was a huge success and a great way to top off the first week of Session 4 for ORA students at Clare College.
