The time has come once again for us to say goodbye to a wonderful cohort of St Peter’s students. From the day they arrived, this group of students have been fantastically friendly and confident, meeting any challenge with positivity and tenacity and they’ll really be missed on campus.
In their lessons this cohort have really reached to produce the best work they could. Our Business Challenge students have researched, designed, and marketed their very own apps, dipping their toes into the real business world. The Modern History class have revolutionised the way they view the subject, beginning to look at how they themselves can shape and change history. Meanwhile both our Oxford Summer English and Photography and Sketching classes have benefited hugely from staying in Oxford, basking in its huge cultural and architectural opportunities respectively.
Outside of classes, too, our cohort have had plenty of opportunity to soak up Oxford culture, from punting on the river Cherwell to city tours and excursions to the best tourist hotspots. The students had the chance to visit Blenheim Palace, Oxford Castle, Christ Church and Oxford’s famous Creation Theatre, really letting them experience the best that Oxford has to offer.
Of course, it’s not just Oxford that the students have visited! On Saturday our students got to make a trip to the big city and see some of the London sights. Stopping in at Madame Tussauds and the Houses of Parliament, the trip was a highlight of many students stay as they got to see some of the most iconic parts of the city.
Other special events for our students included some fabulous masterclasses and visits from phenomenal guest speakers. Basia Nasiorowska helped our students get their business hats on in her entrepreneurial masterclass. As a business leader, she was one of the best people to give our students an insight into the business world and everyone listened raptly. Similarly, Jenny Garrett’s talk on the ever-changing world of technology had all our students captivated as they considered all the technological potential waiting to be unlocked.
When they weren’t learning or out losing themselves in Oxford’s culture, the students had plenty to keep them occupied. The impressive range of creative skills amongst our cohort were unleashed through creating tie-dye t-shirts, cupcake and lanyard decorating, and a jaw-dropping talent show. The students with us this session really have been a group brimming with artistic skill. For the more sporty students, football, badminton, and frisbee have provided everyone not only with a chance to burn off energy but also the opportunity to make friends who’ll last a lifetime.
It was truly amazing to see all those friends come together on Friday to graduate together as one united and close-knit cohort. The moment they all collected their scrolls was one they’d been looking forward to since they arrived and one they completely deserved – as was the Hollywood-themed party that followed it. A huge congratulations goes out again to all of you!
Finally, as we say goodbye to this cohort, it also means saying goodbye to St Peter’s college for 2019. We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the wonderful staff who have worked hard to make this summer the best it could possibly be and we hope to see some of you returning next year!
Once again, a huge well done to all our students this session. We know you’ll all go on to do amazing things and we hope to see you back again in a few years time for our 16-18 courses!
