Sunday was a day for victory at St Hugh’s – victory over the British weather and victory at sports!
The students woke up to some defiantly grey skies and some fierce wind yesterday, but they had a sports day to attend with our Lady Margaret’s cohort and they weren’t about to let a little thing like clouds get to them! After tucking into a full-english breakfast for some much-needed fuel, the students headed off to the university parks for their showdown with the other 13-15 students.
The events taking place were all classic British sports day races like an egg and spoon race, a space hopper race, and wellie wanging. For lots of the students, this was the first time they’d ever taken part in that kind of race but that didn’t stop them from trying their best. In fact, our cohort here at Hugh’s have quite a few undiscovered sporting stars amongst them and the students did impressively well in all their events.
To the delight of all the spectators from Hugh’s, our cohort were announced as the overall winners of the day. A huge well done to all our athletes!
Most of the afternoon offered a change of pace with trips into town or creative workshops in origami and mug painting to give our students some recharge time after their active morning.
The evening was spent claiming victory again – this time over the weather. Though showers were trying hard to ruin our students plans, they were all too overjoyed by their win that morning to be daunted by some rain. The students curled up inside with some snacks for a movie marathon of Madagascar, Shrek 2 and Flushed Away which had everyone laughing together and feeling cosy for the last of the weekend.
