Having spent an active afternoon scaling the city on Wednesday, Thursday saw an opportunity for all of the students on our 19 + programmes to broaden their professional horizons. As the day began, the college welcomed a whole host of guest speakers and the students looked forward to a very informative day.
Whilst most of our students stayed in college for their talks, those on our International Medical Research and Practice programme headed out for a practical field trip. At the Oxford Brookes medical facility, they got to experience a day in the life of a medical professional. They practised sutures, took blood pressure and learned how to ‘scrub up’ properly.
Back at college, students on our other programmes had two or three guest speakers who were leading professionals in their chosen subject areas. All of our guest speakers were talking to the students about research, careers and presentation tips, and these expertise were then followed by a detailed Q&A session.
Students on Public Speaking for the Modern World and Workplace were practising talking tasks, as they learnt to improve creativity, initiative and their listening skills. This was a great way for everyone to develop their confidence and students seemed to really enjoy the challenges.
Global Business, Management and Finance benefitted from a talk that was centred on wealth management. Following this, they delved deeper into this area by looking into specific case studies. Overall, the day was deeply enlightening and everyone came out with a new wealth of relevant, practical knowledge. After a busy afternoon, students retired to their rooms for a relaxed evening.
