St Catherine’s opened its doors to even more ORA students on Tuesday, as it hosted some of the other Oxford campuses for an afternoon of magnificent masterclasses! Students from Balliol and Queen’s colleges came together with Catz, and they all collaborated excellently.
The day started with a tasty breakfast, and then morning lessons which built on the foundations which had been laid in Monday’s classes. The students then ate a quick lunch, before preparing to welcome their visitors.
The staff were pleased to see that the different campuses came together well, and there was a sociable atmosphere as they made introductions and chatted. Soon though, it was time for the masterclasses to get underway.
In Crime Scene Investigation, the students had to investigate a murder mystery using fingerprinting and other forensic techniques. Everyone displayed a real aptitude for the task, and also showed how well they were able to cooperate. The other challenge also required excellent teamwork, as the students were faced with the Stock Market Challenge and did their best to hone their stockbroker skills!
The tasks were met with real positivity by all of the students, as they embraced the chance to learn and apply new skills, as well as meet new people and work as a team. These are all important lessons which will stick with them as they progress, as will the enjoyment they took from such a rewarding afternoon.
