Our students continued their friendly streak yesterday as they embarked on their first lessons of the session. Over a delicious full english breakfast, the students chattered about their chosen courses and worked out which of their new friends they would be spending the morning with. As the counsellors led them to class, the talk turned to course content and by the time the students were sitting down at their desks, they were more than ready to learn!
A few introductory activities helped the students get to grips with what their courses were all about and gave them a chance to get to know anybody they hadn’t spoken to yet.
Now that they were familiar with their peers, the afternoon was spent familiarising themselves with their surroundings on a guided tour of Oxford. The city’s nickname as ‘The City of Dreaming Spires’ is thoroughly deserved and our students loved the chance to see Oxford’s beautiful architecture and experience its rich culture.
One part of the tour that had the students captivated was learning about all the different places around the city that Harry Potter was filmed. As the franchise is known all over the world, seeing some of the places the films were shot was a great way to engage all of our students – and it gave them a great story to tell their parents about!
The amazing ORA quiz in the evening rounded off the day by testing them on their general and Oxford knowledge. After being so engaged earlier, it’s not surprising that they all passed with flying colours!
