It’s time for us to say goodbye to another cohort of students here at Lady Margaret Hall. It’s been an absolute pleasure spending the last two weeks with such talented and energetic individuals and we hope the students have enjoyed every moment they spent here as much as we have.
This intelligent and driven group have fearlessly met any challenge their lessons have thrown at them, really making their teachers proud as they excelled in their studies. Our Introduction to Medicine class was very popular this session, with the most memorable class involving our students honing their skills in a delicate dissection. For other students, the New Perspectives programme gave them an opportunity to explore their favourite subjects in more depth, building their own stories and worlds in Creative Writing or tackling the problems of our own world in Politics and International Relations.
It’s not just the wisdom of their teachers that our students have benefitted from; a wonderful programme of guests have led our students in fantastic masterclasses or given talks. The Soapscience masterclass was a hit with everyone, letting them have some fun getting messy and learn at the same time. Jami Wilson inspired the students to try new things and never give up and Ben Martill encouraged them to think about world politics and relations in new ways.
In our social programme, our students showed themselves to be a spectacularly sporty cohort, trying their hands (and feet!) at as many different sports as possible. From football to baseball to volleyball to table tennis, our students have loved trying out LMH’s sports facilities. Those who are more creative had the chance to express themselves too with cupcake decorating, friendship bracelet making, and tie dyeing workshops. Of course, the highlight of the session was the Harry Potter themed party on Friday night!
As they ventured out of the college into Oxford, the students were able to dip their toes into all the culture a bustling city like Oxford has to offer. From simple activities like going punting to more exciting excursions like visiting Oxford Castle and Christ Church, our students have grabbed every opportunity they’ve come across. They even got to travel slightly further afield to Bristol and experience not only the culture of another vibrant city but also the wonders of the Aerospace Museum.
By the time graduation arrived, our students had all made great friends and grown immensely as individuals. Everyone at LMH is very proud of the students’ progress and seeing the cohort graduate was a special moment for staff and students alike. To round off the wonderful session, the students were able to reunite with the friends they’d made from other colleges and party the night away at a witches and wizards themed disco.
On a final note, an enormous thank you is due to all the fantastic staff for their hard work over the last two weeks. This session has truly been unforgettable and we wish every one of our students the best of luck in whatever they do next – hopefully we might even see some of them returning for our 16 – 18 programmes!
