Once again graduation was on the brains and lips of our students at Lady Margaret’s yesterday! This excitement translated excellently into determination to make their work as good as it could possibly be before final assessments and presentations the next day.
Our Public Speaking and Debate class were especially keyed up yesterday as they prepared their speeches and perfected their oratory skills for a formal debate at the end of the programme. Over the last two weeks it’s been amazing watching the shier members of the class grow in confidence and blossom into fantastic and fearless speakers. The staff are especially proud of the great respect the students have shown for their peers views, values, and perspectives, no matter how different they might have been from their own. We really have had some wonderfully considerate and friendly individuals with us this session!
The afternoon was a final chance for the students to go into Oxford and buy souvenirs and presents, take trips in punts, and eat out in Oxford’s amazing cafes. It looks like some of the students are going to have a really hard time saying goodbye to the city at the weekend!
For a spectacular end to the day, the students let their wide range of amazing skills loose in a talent show. Lots of the acts were musical – both playing instruments and singing and dancing – and it was a great showcase of just how many talents our wonderful cohort has.
It was also amazing to see just how many students were willing to stand up and perform in front of their peers. We really have had a friendly group of students with us this session and we have high hopes that the students will continue the friendships they’ve made here long after the summer has ended.
The night had such a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that the students almost didn’t want curfew to come but the promise of graduation tomorrow eventually enticed them to bed!
