Classes are now well underway for our students in Cambridge and Wednesday saw a huge array of different activities in all of the lessons for students at St Edmund’s.
The group are now beginning to fully settle into their surroundings as they have now had time to get fully acquainted with one another as well as college and the brilliant staff here. The day started with breakfast, which was a leisurely affair, and the students chatted casually about the day ahead of them.
Following their morning meal, they headed for classes. Our students on Medical School Preparation set off for their field trip to King’s College, London where they were to be taking part in a practical workshop, whilst our other students stayed in college. Those studying on Business and Enterprise were learning the tricks of the trade of advertising. They watched famous TV adverts in order to interrogate how big brands appeal to our emotions, which enables them to sell us products. Following this, they then played a fun ‘guess the corporate logo game,’ and it was great to see everyone getting a little competitive.
Over in Law School Preparation classes, students were put into pairs to argue a case. They had a time limit to prepare their defence against a couple who had been convicted of discriminating against people who wanted to stay in their B&B. They had limited time to prepare before making their case in front of the ‘Supreme Court.’ Everyone debated this topical issue in detail, and it gave students a good insight into the professional expectations of a lawyer or barrister.
The day ended with a few different options of activities, from Rounders to Politics to a Poker night. Wednesday was rounded off in a relaxed way, and students are now looking forward to their first weekend in Cambridge.
