Tuesday morning was a little greyer than our students have seen so far, but with so many interesting topics still to cover in their lessons, they weren’t about to be put off by the weather!
All across the college, fascinating ideas and engaging concepts were being discussed yesterday morning. The students taking Chemistry as part of their Broadening Horizons programme had a particularly exciting morning performing an Iodine Clock Experiment. Decked out in their protective gear, the class had to measure out precise amounts of chemicals and mix them together to create a reaction which turns colourless liquid brilliant blue.
As the reaction is very quick, it was a great way for the class to study reaction rates, develop important scientific skills, and investigate what happens when they change elements of an experiment. The class all showed great maturity when handling chemicals and substantial scientific promise as they recorded their results!
In the afternoon it was time for what most students had been eagerly anticipating all week: A trip to a London West End theatre! The students climbed aboard the coach, chattering excitedly and pointing out London landmarks as they came into view. Once they arrived, the students had some free time to take a closer look at those landmarks, buy souvenirs from the big city, or grab some dinner from one of the many restaurants around them.
Once everyone had met up again, the students picked from three amazing shows: The Woman in Black, The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, or Come From Far Away. The fantastic cast completely captured the attention and imagination of our cohort and the students were still chattering about their shows as they climbed on the coach to go home. It’s safe to say the day’s trip was a success!
