After such a wonderfully warm first week, the students were all full of excitement for a weekend of sunshine and relaxing. Before they could get there though, they had one more day of lessons to get through.
Though some of the students were a little slow getting down to breakfast, they all managed to grab some breakfast and get to their classes on time. As it was Friday, lots of the classes were starting to do small presentations or group work. One class that was really pushing the boat out in terms of their Friday curriculum was the Introduction to Medicine class. With a week’s work of theoretical knowledge behind them, they had reached the point where they could put some of it into practice in a heart dissection!
Though it was certainly not for the faint of heart, all our students showed themselves to be true doctors in training and handled the gore like professionals. By the end of the lesson, the staff were all very proud and the students had developed some invaluable surgical skills – it’s safe to say the exercise was a success!
The afternoon was free for the students to spend however they liked, and with the buzz of Friday freedom in the air, most headed out into Oxford for some tasty nibbles or to buy something to wear at the evening’s Harry Potter-themed party!
To round off a wonderful first week, the staff had organised a disco in place of the usual evening enrichment activities and as soon as everyone had finished dinner, it was time to get changed. Kitted out in their costumes, the students had a great night dancing to songs from all over the world – they even learned some cheesy British dances from the counsellors!
Everyone was exhausted by bedtime, but all agreed it had been a wonderful night.
