Yesterday’s unusually high temperatures put the students in equally high spirits for the day ahead! At breakfast all the staff reminded the students to stay hydrated and remember their sunglasses before the students headed off to lessons.
As we draw towards the end of the week, our students are beginning to test the skills they’ve learned so far in practical exercises. In the Introduction to Engineering class, the students were using their technical know-how to build scale models of their creations out of glue and lollipop sticks. Though the warmth made the glue a little more difficult to work with than usual, all our students still managed to build bridges that had both structural integrity and a hint of creativity.
Then after lunch it was time for our students to hear from some wonderful guest speakers! Ben Martill and Jaimi Wilson both spoke passionately, inspiring our students to follow their dreams and push the boundaries of creativity. The students were particularly interested in the story of how Jaimi cycled around the entire globe!
The evening was certainly the time to be outside yesterday, and the staff had organised two outdoor activities for the students: Basketball for the energetic and a ghost tour for the superstitious! Complete with spooky special effects, the ghost tour of Oxford was a big hit with all our students. Oxford has such a long history that it’s not surprising there are some strange stories to be found here. Though none of our students were quite convinced they’d seen a ghost, we did catch a few glancing over their shoulders as they walked back!
Before bed, students cooled off inside with some cold drinks and homework club. It was great to see our cohort still putting as much effort into their studies on an incredibly hot Thursday as they had at the beginning of the week.
