Thursday was an absolutely scorching day in Ascot, as the sun beamed down on St Mary’s School. It was a good day to avoid being in direct sunlight, and so it was ideal that the students were back in their classrooms after Wednesday’s amazing trip!
Everyone was keen to dive straight back into their subjects, leading to some great lessons as the teachers capitalised on the eagerness among the students. In English, lots of fun word puzzles and challenges helped them to learn about animals. They even played a guessing game which involved the students wearing post-its on their heads and trying to work out which animal they were!
Other classes tackled the environment, with a focus on designing the perfect eco-city, paper ship building and there was also an enlightening talk on excavations in Greece from an archaeologist. The diverse range of topics on offer will hopefully have opened the students eyes to a whole world of possibilities.
The day didn’t consist entirely of classes, however, and nor did the students remain indoors all day, as they retired to the shade of the tents on the lawn to enjoy the beautiful day without overheating. Their efforts to keep cool were helped, as dessert after a delicious lunch was ice cream!
The afternoon and evening were fairly relaxed, as nobody felt like being too active in the heat. The week is nearing its end and some of the students are preparing to leave Ascot. They will have a fantastic Friday before then though, as they sign off in style!
