Our students woke up to a bit of a heatwave in the UK yesterday, with temperatures predicted to be the highest ever recorded across the country!
With such a hot day promised, the students were eager to get through their morning lessons so they could enjoy the unusual sunshine. Despite the heat, the students made a valiant effort to learn as much as possible during lesson time, impressing the teachers with their constant dedication.
The students were quick to finish their lunches and rush out into the sunshine. As the students played lazy games of table tennis or simply sat and chatted, the staff were careful to make sure everyone stayed hydrated and had plenty of suncream.
To try and cool off in the heat, the counsellors organised a quick trip into Oxford to go punting. The cold river water and the shade from the trees were certainly a welcome change to the students – though some were disappointed they couldn’t go swimming!
After dinner, the students had a choice of either a pampering session or some karaoke. After quite a busy first week so far, a lot of students loved the chance to lie back and have relaxing manicures or face masks. Meanwhile in the marquee, the karaoke session was anything but relaxed! In fact, as more and more students took up the microphone, the karaoke session slowly transformed into an impromptu disco!
With the evening also very warm, the students didn’t want to dance for too long and soon headed inside for homework or debate club. With the Great Debate scheduled for this Sunday, it was time for our students to start developing their debate skills and thinking about putting themselves forward as the speaker.
At curfew, our students went off to bed pleased with their day of sunshine but hoping for a slightly cooler day tomorrow!
