As some of our students come from very hot climates, yesterday’s record-breaking temperatures were something of a taste of home for quite a few members of our cohort yesterday.
The heat made students a little more restless than usual in their classes, but with so much to learn and so many interesting topics to engage with, it didn’t take long for the students to focus. The weather was clearly still on their minds though as it cropped up several times as a theme in the Creative Writing class!
The students were eager for lunch to arrive and lots of students opted to grab sandwiches and eat them outside on the grass so that they could catch a little sun.
In the afternoon, the staff had organised some wonderful guest speakers: Jaimi Wilson and Ben Martill.
Jaimi Wilson talked about all the challenges she had to overcome to cycle around the world and how the trip had changed her. After a trip almost 60,000 kilometers long, she had plenty of wisdom from all over the world to share with our students, too! The themes of perseverance and overcoming your fears were ones every single member of our cohort could connect with.
Meanwhile Ben Martill gave a slightly more sobering talk on the current political climate in the UK and what the future may hold for the country and the wider world. As many of our students are budding politicians, and all are future world citizens, it was a topic they were all eager to engage with. Unsurprisingly, there were quite a lot of difficult and thoughtful questions from our students once Ben had finished!
After some sports in the evening, our students headed to bed excited for Friday and their last classes before the weekend!
