Wednesday was a real scorcher in the city of Oxford and the demeanours of our students on our 19 + programmes were certainly sunny. Lessons are now in full swing for all of our group and everyone seems to have settled into the routine here very well.
Our students worked diligently in all of their classes as they are really beginning to become immersed fully in their programmes. Students on our Psychological and Behavioural Science programme were being introduced to some of the main theories surrounding psychology – with particular focus on developmental psychology.
It was fantastic to see everyone so engaged on Wednesday, and it seems that in all of the classes, as well as developing their knowledge in their specific subject areas, students have also formed lasting friendships which have instilled a collaborative and supportive attitude towards work. This attitude can be felt throughout both Merton and Univ – as both locations are filled with a friendly and open ambiance.
In the afternoon, students enjoyed the sunshine with a special talk on the grass in Merton’s Fellows Garden. This talk was aimed at preparing students for interviews, as well as encouraging students to ask any academic or employment related questions. There was even a chance for students to practise their firm handshakes, an important aspect of meeting any new employer for the first time.
Students got to make the most of the lovely weather and the beautiful grounds during the afternoon, and the talk was informative and useful for the whole group. After the talk, everyone enjoyed a free evening – most relaxed in college, whilst some headed into the city to explore!
