Everyone at the St Mary’s campus has made a busy start to the second week, in particular preparing for Wednesday’s wonderful excursion. The students have certainly settled well, and taken every chance to explore the school campus. Whilst the site is stunning, it is also surrounded by some breathtaking places.
Ascot is home to a famous racecourse, which hosts a number of highly prestigious events throughout the year. The course is familiar to racing fans the world over, and has been the site of many iconic moments in the sport’s history. As well as this, its location helps it hold a unique tie to one of the world’s most famous families…
Ascot is located very close to Windsor, meaning that Windsor Castle – a household belonging to the British Royal Family is also nearby. The Castle is a popular tourist attraction, due to its association with the Royals, a number of whom have even been educated at St Mary’s School! Our students are certainly in excellent company!
The Royal Family aren’t the only famous residents of the area though, as members of one of the UK’s most famous bands have lived in Ascot. John Lennon of the Beatles moved into nearby Tittenhurst Park in 1969 and later sold it to band-mate Ringo Starr.
The area around Ascot is steeped in history and culture. Hopefully the prestigious names and pretty places which are associated with the region will prove inspiring to the students as they take their first steps on their journey towards their futures!
