The sun was out in full force yesterday to brighten the students’ first day of lessons. The bright sunshine put everyone in a good mood and all the students had smiles on their faces as they came down for their first breakfast.
The counsellors were on hand after the plates were cleared to make sure nobody got lost on their first day and the students all found their classrooms on time. Even though it was the first day, the students wasted no time before diving right into the trickier concepts of their courses. There are a large number of students taking the Oxford Summer English Programme here at St. Peters and they were all eager to reap the benefits of studying the language in its homeland!
After lessons had finished for the day, the counsellors had organised a walking tour of the city to help our students familiarise themselves with it. The tour covered all the most famous parts of the city, from the Bodleian Library to Christ Church. The students were particularly excited by the impressive history of Oxford on the big screen and they all wanted to see the places where Harry Potter had been filmed!
In the evening, students got the chance to pitt their new knowledge of Oxford against their fellow students’ as part of a quiz the counsellors had organised. There were plenty of rounds on topics as diverse as music and general knowledge, but by far the most animated round was the one on Oxford history.
It was great to see our students so excited by their new home and we hope to see this level of enthusiasm continue throughout the session!
