St Catz was in high spirits yesterday as the sun shone down on the beautiful campus, with the Great Debate to look forward to later on.
The students were up pronto once again. Despite it being Sunday, many were up and about early to make the most of the day ahead. This may have been to make the most of the sunshine, but it probably had much more to do with getting to Breakfast on time!
The day ticked along smoothly, with some students opting to relax in the stunning campus grounds, whilst others decided to have a go at punting. An iconic part of Cambridge imagery, punting saw the students balancing on the back of a boat, doing their utmost to stay on board! The students throughout our ORA programmes have always loved punting, and yesterday was no different. The sunshine also made it all the better, and there were some truly memorable moments!
Soon the evening rolled around and it was time for the Great Debate. The subject at hand was ‘this house believes that new media technologies encourage radicalisation’. A difficult topic, it was handled really welll by students. Each side of the argument had the chance to lay down their opinion, followed by a period of time for questions at the end. The end result was a fantastic evening jam-packed with engaging points and respectful back-and-forth. There was plenty to talk about that night over dinner, and it’s fair to say that everyone was thoroughly riveted!
