The weekend’s rain cleared up yesterday in time to welcome a new session of students to Lady Margaret’s!
As the students trickled in throughout the afternoon, our wonderful staff were on hand to give out lanyards and induction booklets, and make sure nobody got lost on their first day! There were refreshments on hand too to help re-energize students after their long journeys and the trials of getting all their luggage upstairs!
Once students had unpacked a little and met their new neighbors, there was a welcome talk for the students and any remaining parents. The talk covered both more serious aspects like remembering to respect their new international peers and lighter subjects like what time they’ll need to get up in the morning!
Then it was time to wave goodbye to all the parents and head to dinner. Though the meal started off quietly, our students soon gained confidence and started chatting away in earnest, eager to get to know the rest of the cohort. Conversations ranged from favourite football teams to comparing home countries, and by the time the plates were cleared away the students were already starting to form friendship groups.
In the evening any lingering awkwardness was washed away by some fun ice breaker games the counsellors had organised. Splat was a big hit with all the students and was a great way to get them all laughing together on their first night! It looks like there are going to be some really strong friendships amongst this cohort!
