Sunday was a day to recharge the batteries in New Haven, as staff and participants alike recovered from the New York trip. The sweltering weather meant that everyone was very grateful for a quieter day on campus.
The blazing sunshine greeted the new day, with participants allowed a lie-in and a later registration. Everyone took advantage of the extra sleep, and appeared well rested when they did surface later in the morning. Despite the change in plans, nobody had any complaints after such an amazing Saturday!
The lighter schedule was carried on into the afternoon, as lunch was followed by some free study time to do independent homework. The participants were glad to knuckle down, as long as they could do so in the respite of an air-conditioned room!
After this, there was a debate workshop held by two Yale students who have been academically acclaimed for their debating and public speaking. The participants picked up a number of handy hints and top tips, and even had a go at some debating themselves.
The evening offered more free time, as the participants embraced the laid-back nature of the day. Some went into town, whilst others made the most of the time to pick their teachers’ brains and do some more of their work, ensuring that they are perfectly placed to hit the ground running as week two gets underway.
