The second week of our St Mary’s summer programme got underway with an amazing Sunday in Ascot. New students arrived to join those who stayed on from week one, and more sports and games made them all feel welcome!
The new students filtered in throughout the day, arriving in a fleet of vehicles and ready to get stuck into the programme. They have come from all over the world to grab this opportunity, and were all met with very warm welcomes.
The customary games of catch and football were taking place, as well as an old favourite with a new twist; rounders but played using a football! Both the new students and those who were here last week mixed in well, enjoying the outdoor fun.
Perhaps the biggest highlight was yet to come, as the students all filed into an amazing dome which took them to the far corners of the galaxy on an incredible space adventure! They learned all about the stars and some other planets, with stunning visual aids helping to bring the facts to life. The students enjoyed the dome hugely, which all the staff were pleased to see.
After dinner and some free time, the new arrivals had a welcome talk which prepared them for the week ahead and helped them feel settled on campus. Then, it was off to bed after a long but gratifying day.The week ahead will be challenging but very enjoyable, and they cannot wait to get started.
