Our Yale cohort’s wonderful weekend began with a terrific trip on Saturday, as the participants went on an exquisite excursion to one of the world’s most incredible cities; New York!
The campus was abuzz bright and early, as everyone was chattering away excitedly before setting off. After a quick breakfast, the participants rushed about making sure they had everything they wanted before getting on the bus for the journey down the coast.
Upon arriving in ‘The Big Apple’ the participants had their first activity, which was a trip on the Staten Island Ferry, offering spectacular views of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. There were many phones taken out to capture pictures of the iconic monument – after all, you don’t visit New York everyday!
The bus then took everyone back into the city, dropping them off close to the zoo in Central Park. The participants enjoyed taking any chance to point out buildings and other landmarks which they recognised from various films or TV shows. Once they were off the bus, a group photo was taken with everyone posing on the park’s famous tree-lined walkway, The Central Park Mall.
The students also had a lot of free time to eat, shop and see many of the other incredible sights New York has to offer, such as Grand Central Station and the New York Public Library. The trip was rounded off with a meal at the famous Ellen’s Stardust Diner, where the waiters sing to patrons! It was an amusing end to an entertaining day, and the team all headed back to New Haven tired but happy.
