Monday saw the start of lessons at St Mary’s School, as our young students got academic at Ascot!
The first lessons were largely introductory, as the students were eased into their programmes and given an overview of their respective topics. This was certainly the case for the Business Discovery Plus students, whose lessons explained what businesses are and what they do, before looking ahead to their final projects.
The 8-10 year old students on the Academic Discovery course have also been briefed on the key question which will be the focus of this week’s study. This week, the question is: ‘185 days in space: a poet’s dream or a zero-gravity nightmare?’. During the week, they will look at a number of elements of space travel and draw conclusions – which should be out of this world!
In the evening, the students unwound from their lessons with a fun origami session, where they made paper frogs and then tried to see how far they could jump. Others opted to make paper aeroplanes, and soon there were impressive paper shapes flying all over the place!
The students also had a delicious dinner, and then an evening talk in the Rose Theatre before heading off to bed. Everyone was tired, but happy on a day when they’ve made a fantastic start to the programme.
