Monday morning classes were anything but sluggish at Jowett yesterday! It was time for the students to hand in all the homework they’d been working away at and to give the presentations that they’d been polishing.
Our Engineering Preparation students had a particularly practical day as it was time for them to start experimenting with models! After a bit of planning in the classroom, the students headed outside to see how their creations would hold up in the real world! Everyone held their breath as they discovered which parts of their designs were already working well and which parts would need some more tweaking before the final hand in.
In the afternoon, the subject turned to university interviews. As a lot of our cohort here are hoping to attend university in the UK, it was a really crucial topic to cover. The staff realised this and, not content simply to give the students a talk, they set up mock interviews between the students and more experienced counsellors.
Though the tone was serious overall, there was still plenty of opportunity for the students to laugh as they made silly mistakes and enjoy the freedom a test-run gave them. Needless to say, all the students impressed their ‘interviewers’ enough to get a place!
The rest of the evening was taken up with free time. As usual, lots of the students turned to sports to let off some steam, setting up a football game on the lawn and some rounds of tennis on the courts.
Then it was time to head to bed and get some rest in preparation for another excursion in the morning!
