A spot of sunshine on Monday morning had our students at LMH up out of bad in no time – no Monday blues at this campus!
After a delicious breakfast, students happily headed off to their first classes of the week. Despite the busy weekend, all our students had found plenty of time to complete their homework, which was great to see.
The students in Introduction to Medicine kicked off their week with a very interactive lesson on diabetes. Sitting in a classroom can be stuffy, so the teacher brought the students outside for a human scale-analogy of how glucose and insulin work in the body. WIth the help of a few balloons and a bit of running, the students demonstrated the difference between a diabatic’s and a non diabetic’s system.
It was a great way to consolidate the students’ knowledge while also getting them up and moving. It’s safe to say the students ended that lesson with a smile!
In the afternoon, a few students brought out guitars and ukuleles and gathered a bit of a crowd as they demonstrated their musical prowess. In the end it turned into a mini music lesson out on the grass as the more musical of the students demonstrated how to play the guitar. It really is great to see all our students coming together like this, and it’s wonderful to know that they’ll leave ORA with more than just academic skills.
After dinner, the students spread out around campus to play their favourite sports – some heading out to the park for football or rounders, others staying closer to the college for netball or table tennis. By bedtime, everyone was tired out – which is just as well as they’ll need to be well-rested for tomorrow’s excursion!
