Saturday dawned as a pleasantly sunny day – which was just as well as our students were going to be outside and moving all morning as part of the ORA Olympics!
Our students gathered outside in the warm Saturday sunshine to cheer on all those students that took part – and to root for the Jowett Counsellor who was bravely going up against some students! Though Jowett didn’t bring home any medals this time, everyone still had great fun making new friends with the competitors from other colleges and spending some time in the sun!
The early afternoon was occupied by retail therapy! There was a vintage sale on in Oxford where clothes could be purchased by the kilo at bargain prices. The only challenge will be seeing whether or not what the students bought will fit in their suitcases!
When they got back to the college, the students happily took the opportunity to sit down and rest their feet. Their minds, however, were still hard at work. Our debate team got together to discuss final strategies and stances for The Great Debate taking place tomorrow, while our Medical School Preparation students were treated to a talk on how to enter Medicine courses at UK universities.
After dinner, a few students set up their own mini Olympics with a table tennis tournament in the grounds! It was a more intense set of games than had taken place so far, but luckily everyone was gracious in both victory and defeat. Meanwhile, those who had seen enough sport for the day gathered together for a laid-back film night.
Today our students take on ORA’s Great Debate – a great opportunity for them to have their say on contemporary issues. We have faith they’ll all do wonderfully.
