Saturday was a day for some friendly competition between some of our Oxford campuses, with Balliol joining Queen’s and St Catherine’s in the ORA Olympics.
The events included the 100m Sprint, the egg and spoon race and even welly tossing! Everyone embraced the spirit of the contest and there was fair play and fun all round.
There was also a highly-charged tug of war, with teams stubbornly digging their heels in to try and hold off their opponents. The resolve and determination of the students was truly impressive, even if there were a few stumbles!
The students were all in team colours, with Balliol sporting red, Queen’s in orange and St Catz in blue. The reds put in a valiant effort but were just pipped into second place by the oranges.
As well as the students, the staff also took to the track in the staff relay – and took it rather seriously, to the amusement of everyone! There was also some stealing of ceremonial paddles from rival campuses, as competition fever took hold.
The event was a brilliant way to blow off some steam and burn some energy, as well as socialise with their peers after a week of hard work. Another one awaits them, but if Saturday showed anything it’s that the students are not afraid of a challenge!
