The Clare cohort now say goodbye to Cambridge as our first session of the summer has finished with a bang. This group of students have been fun, engaged and full of energy during their stay here. It has been wonderful to witness their friendships blossoming throughout their two week stay, in what has been a beautifully sunny Cambridge.
All of the classes have been well received and our students return home with a wealth of new skills and knowledge which they have developed across our fantastic and diverse array of summer programmes. For our students aged 13 – 15, our programmes aim to get them to look deeper into their subject of choice, teaching them things they would not learn in their usual classrooms. In particular, those on our Introduction to Medicine, have enjoyed learning in more detail about anatomy, with the chance to perform dissections to improve their practical skills. Students on our Summer English programme have worked on broadening their vocabularies. Thanks to presentation work, these students have also built their confidence in speaking in front of others.
Students have enjoyed masterclasses in soap making, building mini cars and starting a music festival during their stay! Other activities have included playing sports on the lawn, a night of karaoke, as well as taking part in an interactive quiz which was run by the counsellors and proved rather competitive. During their social programme, our students have made lasting international friendships that we are sure will endure beyond the programme, Not one day has been the same here, and it is safe to say that all of our students have expressed their appreciation for the diversity of activities on offer.
On a fun range of excursions the group have visited Duxford Imperial War Museum, King’s College and Chapel, as well as the Cambridge Botanic Gardens. All of the trips have attempted to make the most of everything this historic epicentre has to offer and each student has fully immersed themselves in experiencing the city of Cambridge.
It goes without saying, that none of the successes of our fantastic students could have been achieved without our dedicated and passionate team of staff on campus. From our expert teachers, to our junior deans and counsellors who are always on hand to offer their support, our whole staff have ensured the past two weeks have run smoothly. It’s a testament to our programmes that staff and students alike, have formed lasting connections.
The two weeks was rounded off with a fantastic graduation ceremony, which saw all of the students enjoy a three course meal, followed by a party and disco at the Hilton Hotel in the city centre. This was a special way to bring the wonderful two weeks to a close!
Well done to all of those at Clare, you will be missed! We wish all of the students the very best of luck with their academic futures and look forward to seeing some of them next year!
