Thursday was a particularly special outing for the students as they headed to Oxford Brookes to take part is an all-day Clinical Skills Training. The students were keen to get some more practical skills under their belt after so much time in the classroom, and it was great to explore Oxford Brookes University and the surrounding Headington.
The workshop was extensive and encompassed lots of different subjects. These included Manual Blood Pressure, Intravenous Cannulation, Intramuscular injections and Otoscopy. Everyone approached the day with a keen willingness to learn and the staff were exceptionally helpful.
The group was split into more advanced and less advanced sections, meaning everyone was able to move at their own pace. It was a fascinating experience to watch from a bystander’s perspective, and the students all seemed to have a great grasp of what they were doing.
In the Afternoon, the students were taken to a facility valued at over £2 million. Once there, they were taken to a simulation room, where they then had to complete a scenario using a fully-animated dummy who could blink, breathe, had an artificial pulse and whose eyes could even dilate. It was a fantastic opportunity to perform an operation in near-real conditions.
It’s been a fantastic week at Univ, and now Friday is already here! There so much more yet to come for Univ, but its been great to reflect on the wonderful lessons, Excursions and Enrichment Activities from the past week, and now the weekend is nearly with us!
