It was another successful day yesterday at St Catz; students were prompt in the morning for lessons and seemed just as keen at the mid-week point as they did on Monday. It was great to see everyone getting deeper into their subjects and tackling more complex ideas.
This was followed by a ‘Ted Talk’-style Session on the subject of how and why to ‘digital detox’. Students were shown the benefits of taking a break from technology in a high-speed, ever-connected world. It covered topics from Smartphones and Computers to Addiction and Social Media. Students seemed thoroughly engaged and will hopefully be inspired to look up from their screens a little more often.
In the evening, it appeared that the students had taken the initiative and spent their time outside, playing Table Tennis on the green and even competing with one-another at Chess, the latter of which even became a wider tournament between students. There was some great friendly competition between peers, and even a few bystanders: quite unusual for a game of Chess! In the age of smartphones, it was also refreshing to see so many of the students opting for other activities.
Today brings us even closer to the end of the week, and with it the halfway point of the course. It’s been an excellent week so far, and tomorrow brings with it another series of non-stop lessons from some of the UK’s top academics. There might even be fewer phones about!
