Yesterday was the most intense yet at St Catherine’s College as the students partook in a Construction Masterclass and even tried their hand at playing the stock market.
For those on our Broadening Horizons Programme, the day’s lessons began with Human Sciences, followed by Genetics. It was great to see everyone grasping the complexity of their subjects and keeping their tutors on their toes with poignant questions and input.
Following this, everyone moved to the marquee for an interactive lesson in the stock market. There was an incredible atmosphere and the students quickly got to grips with the principle of buying and selling stocks and shares. There was a great sense of immersion as the exercise aimed to simulate a real Wall Street-esque experience. A bell rang when it was time to trade, with the end goal being simply to make as much money as possible.
What followed was a Construction Masterclass which had the students building their own architectural designs. Nothing was off-limits creatively, with everything from skyscrapers to pyramids being assembled. Some designs were exceptionally ambitious in scale, with many students learning the importance of structural integrity the hard way! There were even some stunning original designs too.
Today brings with it a particularly packed timetable of lessons, covering everything from Experimental Psychology to Neuroscience. The sun is still shining though, so luckily students can fit in some time outside as well!
