Academic life was in full swing at Queen’s College yesterday with lessons ticking along in the morning, from Creative Writing to Classical Civilizations as part of our Broadening Horizons Programme. It was great to see such great engagement across the board at what is still such an early stage in the programme.
The afternoon was another packed one, with the students partaking in a Stock Market Masterclass that had them grappling with shares and trading in at the best possible time. The aim of the exercise was to give a simple rundown of how stock trading works, whilst also creating a Wall Street-like atmosphere. Teams were divided by College with the goal of making as much money as they could in the time given, but unfortunately Catz did not achieve glory this time round!
This was followed up by a Performance and Poetry Session, in which the students were able to show off their public speaking abilities. It was noted how useful an exercise this was in building the students’ confidence, which had vastly improved by the end of the session. Creative Writing is sometimes a difficult thing to share, but the nerves were overcome remarkably well.
The day wrapped up with some students heading to Iffley Sports Ground for a bit of basketball, as there was still some sun to be had. Meanwhile, others opted for a much more relaxed session of board games in the JCR, and who could blame them after such a long day!
