Our first day of lessons at Jowett went splendidly. All our students are settling into the swing of things incredibly well and they jumped into their lessons with incredible enthusiasm.
In the afternoon, the students got to venture out for the first time into The City Of Dreaming Spires. Their walking tour took them around all the most picturesque parts of the city – from the Bridge of Sighs to Carfax tower. A particular highlight of the tour was the chance for the students to visit famous sites from the Harry Potter films at the Bodleian Library. Everyone was thoroughly enthralled by all the culture and history there was to take in and it was obvious everyone thoroughly enjoyed the tour.
After dinner back at Jowett, the evening kicked off with a quiz. One of the most entertaining rounds involved the students trying to match up childhood pictures of the staff with more recent ones. There was a healthy amount of friendly rivalry between the students – especially during the Oxford history round – which created a lively atmosphere that everyone was sucked into.
The students had obviously caught the competitive bug, though, as they decided to squeeze in some lively games of table tennis and cricket before bed. It’s clear there are some strong friendships forming already, and no matter who won, everyone went off to bed with a smile
