The sun shone down on Oxford yesterday as University College opened its doors to its first cohort of students for the summer. The sign-ins went well as the children said their goodbyes to parents and found their rooms. A short meet-and-greet period followed and the students got the chance to meet some of the team!
University College is one of Oxford’s oldest and most beautiful, so it was only fair to allow time for everyone to explore the grounds. Based within the college itself, those studying will have plenty more opportunities in the coming weeks to familiarise themselves with ‘Univ’ and its prestigious history.
Shortly after, there was a talk from our PD, which discussed the exciting weeks ahead and everything that the students have to look forward to, from Excursions to Masterclasses. There was also guidance on how and why the students should respect the diverse cultural heritage of their fellow pupils. With over 150 nationalities now represented by ORA, the rare opportunity to make new friends from across the world is one that all will be sure to embrace.
Across the day there were plenty of opportunities for students to break the ice and get to know one-another. From games that encouraged everyone to ask questions and work in teams, to free time around the campus, it was great to see friendships already beginning to blossom.
With so much to look forward to in the next two weeks and so many new opportunities at their fingertips, the week can’t begin soon enough!
