Our students were welcomed to Jowett Walk this afternoon by some wonderful summer sunshine. The campus team was on hand to help them get settled into their rooms and deal with any hiccups – which there were blissfully few of.
After the students had taken the chance to introduce themselves, it was time to head off to a welcome talk by the programme director where the students were encouraged to make the most of their summer both academically and personally. They were reminded that their stay is as much about making connections with the students around them as it is about giving them a head start in their education.
Then it was time for the cohort to head off to their first dinner together where they began to chat in earnest; comparing travel stories and hometowns.
By the time ice breakers began, the students were already beginning to come together as a group and everyone got stuck into some traditional British games. They played splat, categories, the memory game, and duck, duck, goose which encouraged lots of laughter. It was really great to see our students settling in so well!
There was just time for a quick game of frisbee before the students headed off to bed. They’re all looking forward to tomorrow when they can begin their studies in the historic city of Oxford.
