The middle weekend in our first session at Imperial began on a high, after the party on Friday and a week’s worth of academic sessions successfully navigated.
The students had breakfast in the Common Room as usual, with much excited chatter about the day ahead. After they had eaten, everyone went to get ready for a day of exploring!
In slightly more comfortable temperatures than previous days, the students headed out into London for a visit to the East End of the city. First up was Shoreditch, a district in which England’s first playhouse was built.
The first performances of some of legendary playwright William Shakespeare’s finest works took place in Shoreditch, including Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet.
The students were given some free time to explore the area, as well as visiting the bustling Spitalfields Market for some retail therapy. Spitalfields has been a diverse thriving market since the mid 17th century, and our students found that there was something for everyone!
In the evening, everyone made sure they were in fine form for the Karaoke night. It was another chance for the students to have some lighthearted fun and express themselves, and they all had a great time.
There was also a chance to prepare for Sunday’s ‘Great Debate’ which will be a fantastic way to kick off the second week. As for the first week, it was certainly mission accomplished!
