Three days in and we can already see that the students are having a great time around their respective campuses, making new friends and having a lot of fun along the way.
The students in Oxford, Cambridge, London and Scotland have experienced mornings full of insightful teaching, followed by afternoons full of exciting and interesting activities- everything from Soap Making to Forensics!
Yesterday in Cambridge, at St Catharine’s college, students had a creative writing workshop as well as a fantastic forensic science workshop. Students were asked to take off their shoes for the creative writing workshop, and then pick up another pair to describe what life would be like in the other person’s shoes. During the forensics workshop, students were asked to dust for finger prints, and try and find out who did the crime. You can see in the images below the crime scene of the “crime scene” and also the final discussion of the crime scene and prize giving. What a great way to get creative juices and brain power flowing!
Over in Oxford, students at Queen’s college participated in a Soap Science workshop in the beautiful college grounds on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. The workshop involved a brief overview of the chemistry behind soap making (saponification) and the mechanism by which soaps remove dirt and grease, with students pitching their own ideas for soap products to the group and judges. At least they all went to bed nice and clean that evening!
An absolutely perfect way to enjoy the sunshine in London is to visit the Southbank centre and have a kick around in one of London’s finest parks, which is exactly what students at Imperial College did. After a tour led by Campus Counsellors and the Programme Director to see some of London’s most iconic sites, and to get them in the World Cup spirit, students headed to Hyde Park to have some more fun over a friendly football game.
As always, plenty more extra-curricular activities and cultural visits await the students outside of their world-class academic programme, including the end of week party! Don’t forget to keep checking in on our blogs, where we will be giving you daily updates on all that has been happening for our international students at Session 3 of Summer 2018.
